Expert Vegan Shares both Perspectives to Skyrocketing Pattern


The eruption of dieting and new eating trends has emerged rapidly within the past decade and many SoCal locals are engaging in the foodie revolution of new diets and health recipes. Some involve themselves in certain eating habits where others believe that there are misleading details behind diets like Veganism. However, Veganism has been one eating pattern that has been around for over 2,000 years and is now increasing in popularity. Peta conducted a survey in 2011 that shows that there are over 7,500,000 Vegans in the United States, or 2.5% of the population, and these numbers are only increasing.

Veganism is a food diet that abstains from using animal products and meat in general, according to About News. Often times, people choose this lifestyle from a spiritual perspective to stop the harm of animals, while others may just engage in the diet change for a healthier lifestyle. The primary foods within the vegan category include vegetables, grain, soy products, and beans, but absolutely no meat or animal products.

A recent article from the Huffington Post highlights that most vegans, from a statistical standpoint, are women. Statistics analyzed in 2013 shows 79% of women are vegans whereas only 21% are men. There are speculations that this may be due to the pressure to maintain a body image. However, the reasons are unknown.

This interview conducted with Nancy Fischbeck shares her experience as a vegan, in addition the potential dangers that come along with this strict diet.
